Project - Polished Concrete
When asked if Calibre Coatings Ltd. (CCL) could remove black glue from a shop floor after the removal of VCT tile, CCL was all excited about putting their new Blastrac propane ride-on scraper to the test. When the subject came up if polishing concrete was in CCL’s scope of work, that too became exciting. As a result, a new client relationship was born. Ken Dupuis, a production manager at (CCL) was invited to take on the task of transforming a really old concrete floor into a polished piece of art.
The CCL Solution
It was decided that a Class “A” standard of grinding would be achieved. In other words, no intentional effort to produce any aggregate
exposure other than what may become naturally exposed while producing the specified gloss level “2” or semi-gloss finish. Seven passes were required to achieve the final sheen finish all the way up to 3000 resin diamond polish.
Dupuis had his crew add densifier on the 4th pass to strengthen the concrete and a final sealer was added for additional protection. “The semi-gloss sheen was really nice to look at and apart from the difficult, hard-to-remove black glue, the project went as planned.” Dupuis said.
Polished Concrete Advantage
There is simply no comparison to other floor systems when it comes to the life of a polished concrete floor. Even the most durable epoxy, urethane or MMA floors will require replacement at some time, whether it is ten or even twenty years later. Polished concrete floors will be there as long as the slab exists. With proper maintenance, it’s one of the longest lasting and esthetically pleasing floors.
